Lying Friday Prayer Leader, Oppressive Basij

Mir-Hossein Mousavi dismissed Ahmad Jannati’s accusations against the green movement leaders as absolute lies, saying, “Lying is a one form of oppression that is appalling at any time, especially if it comes out of the mouth of the chairman of the Guardian Council of the Constitution and the capital’s Friday prayer leader; the person who is supposed to be the guardian of people’s votes, the principles of the constitution and the national covenant. Can anyone provide a clearer proof of fraud in the election than this fellow’s recent great lie? Especially if we consider the fact that this is not the first time he has made such false statements.” Later, after a joint meeting, Karoubi and Mousavi declared, “The Basij has now become a military-political party to suppress people, students, the Darvish community and their civil rights, and to engineer elections.”

Taking to a group of Iran-Iraq war veterans on Friday, Mir-Hossein Mousavi pointed to conditions in Iranian prisons and said, “The disaster that is happening now in prisons is the consequence of the views of the chairman of the Guardian Council and his protégés. The Kahrizak tragedy, the attack on student dormitories and assaults on people are consequences of the view that one can clearly see the ugliness and brutality of all aspects of totalitarian and authoritarian tendencies. It really is impossible to forget his statements from the holy podium of Friday prayers praising the judiciary for executing prisoners and encouraging more executions.”

While the statements that the chairman of the Guardians Council made last week have already raised plenty of reactions, the former prime minister continued his criticism and said, “We expect the nation and especially religious figures and grand ayatollahs to demand to see and review the proof of Ahmad Jannati’s claims; and also ask the other Friday Prayer leader, who is an ally of Ahmad Jannati and who claimed that the Guardian Council is approved by the hidden Imam, to provide evidence to show that the hidden Imam was in fact satisfied with him and his allies in the Council, as he has claimed”

The chairman of the Council claimed last week, “I came into possession of a document showing that Americans paid one billion Dollars through Saudi individuals, who are currently America’s agents in the region, to leaders of the conspiracy. These Saudis, who are speaking on behalf of Americans, said, if you cannot overthrow the regime, we will give you up to 50 billion Dollars more, but the almighty foiled their plot through its pious creatures.”

Mousavi added, “As long as we allow some to rule and to occupy positions of power to call people cows, goats and dirt and strew, this Pharaoh-type tyranny will continue and we will witness organized lies and the distortion of Islam.”
