The Shahram Amiri Scenario

» Third Clip Emerges

As reports surfaced that security agents have threatened to kill Shahram Amiri’s son if he does not return to the country, a new clip surfaced of the Iranian nuclear scientist on the Internet. In the clip, which surfaced on the Internet, Amiri says nervously that he “didn’t agree to betray his country despite all of the American government’s threats and promises,” and that “the United States government is responsible” for his safety. In the clip, which was available yesterday on Internet websites such as youtube, Amiri claims to have successfully escaped from his captors in the state of Virginia moments before shooting the clip. He also says that he is at a safe place now and will return to Iran soon.

Shahram Amiri, whose story resembles a spy thriller, also speaks about his two earlier clips in the latest one: “The clip from me that was aired on the Islamic Republic radio and television was completely authentic, but the second clip, which was produced by the American government, and in which I say that I’m free and have come to America to continue my education is not authentic and is completely fabricated.”

Amirr adds, “I’m not free here or allowed to contact my family or others.”

He says, “The American government is responsible if any problem arises for me or if I don’t return to my country alive. All writings or words attributed to me are inauthentic and completely fabricated.”

This Iranian nuclear scientists then asks the Iranian government and human rights organizations to step up their efforts to secure his release before he is harmed in any way.

At the end of the short clip, Amiri asks his family to remain patient and resistant, adding, “I didn’t agree to betray his country despite all of the American government’s threats and promises and I was killed for my country with honor.”

The quality of Shahram Amiri’s latest clip is very low. In the clip, he appears to be extremely nervous and speaks in chopped sentences. Instead of looking at the camera, he constantly stares at a point above the computer screen.

Amiri does not explain in the video why, if he is in a safe place, he may be arrested again at any moment by American agents, or how many times he has been able to escape from the U.S. security agents, quickly access a computer equipped with a webcam and high-speed Internet access and release clips on the web.

The clip was released shortly after the American ABC news network, which has been the source of the most news reports published about Amiri, claimed in a report that the Iranian nuclear scientist has been threatened by the Iranian government that his son will be murdered if he does not return to Iran.

In an earlier clip from Mr. Amiri, he identifies his wife as “Azar and his son as “Amir Hossein” and hopes to be able to see them soon.
