The insistence by judiciary and intelligence officials to keep ailing prisoners in prison and not providing them with adequate medial care has resulted in a critical health condition for two prisoners and the death of a third at the notorious Evin Prison.  presidential candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi’s senior advisor, seyyed Alireza Beheshti, suffered a heart attack yesterday due to the prison’s unfavorable condition and a previous ailment.  In the past few days, despite his ailment, he was forced to wait for several hours in the cold winter weather, wearing only prison garb and flip-flops at the Revolutionary Court.  In a conversation with his family following his stroke, he said that he was “relatively better.”

Meanwhile, seyyed Hassan Ahmadian, head of the Mousavi campaign’s public committee was transferred from the Evin Prison to the Atieh Hospital in Tehran due to a deteriorating kidney condition.  Ahmadian’s family members had repeatedly requested from the judiciary to grant Ahmadian short-term release for medical treatment, which the judiciary opposed.  Ahmadian was previously scheduled to undergo surgery on January 23.

The indifference to the medical condition of prisoners continues while the lives of several political prisoners, including Ebrahim Yazdi, Mohammad Maleki, Emadeddin Baghi, etc., is in danger.
